A Webmaster Blog
Seems Google has come up with new feature in its webmaster tools to aid webmasters to know all the backlinks- Inbound and outbound of their websites.
I have already mentioned about the fastest way of knowing backlinks with Yahoo site explorer new services.
But what about the accuracy in the number of backlinks? Which one gives the exact number
You can view the links to your site by selecting a verified site in your webmaster tools account and clicking on the new Links tab at the top. Once there, you will see the two options on the left: external links and internal links, with the external links view selected. You will also see a table that lists pages on your site, as shown below. The first column of the table lists pages of your site with links to them, and the second column shows the number of the external links to that page that we have available to show you.
One thing I noticed immediately: For Inbound Links, at least for my site, it is only listing pages in the main (non-supplemental) index.
They are mentioning the “last date found” for each link. It would be interesting to know the “first date found” as that gives information about link growth in time to a specific page, but I guess that information is classified. But despite of that, a useful tool.
A front page post at webmasterworld.com and this is the discussion that is going on
a site links to me as nofollow (which is what I wanted) yet it shows as a backlink. Will this hurt me, assuming that too many links hurt?
And Googleguy replies
we’re showing all the links — although some of them may have a nofollow attribute. We do, of course, process the nofollow as well in those cases. So, no worries if you see those links listed in the tool.
Another webmaster says
Found some deep links that I didn’t know I had. It’s great to see our own links without showing them to competitors.
