Google’s webmaster tools or Yahoo site explorer tools – part 2

Google, SEO, search engine wars, yahoo February 9th, 2007

Google’s link: command never showed the complete list of external links pointing to the site or an individual page and now Google has come up with its new link analysis tool to help webmasters check all the backlinks pointing to their sites.

Example:

link:searchengineland.com

That’s showing about 3,000 links to the Search Engine Land web site (note, for some people, you might see no results, due to an apparent glitch). In contrast, the new system within Google Webmaster Central reports 57,000 links pointing my way. From 3,000 to 57,000 links — what a different the new system makes!

To access the data, you have to be verified Google Webmaster Central user. That’s explained more in google official blog and it’s easy to do.

So this new links tab shows both internal and external links.

And the subdomain external links does not count as the backlinks to the main site.

But unfortunately Google still does not list the backlinks of a site and internal pages in a descending order.

You can download the data as well and the downloaded information contains the following.

1. Page getting the link
2. Link to that page
3. Last found date (Yahoo doesn’t show this)

But I guess putting the Yahoo site explorer badge in the site or each page can still give the Link growth which plays an important role in increasing the rank of a site.

And the news is that Google is considering to have the link widget in the sites.

Well the war game is very strongly ON among the search engines. 2007 can see some major changes!
